Synopsis and Other Information

Synopsis

Jack Adrian was targeted by creatures ever since he was eight years old. These creatures, called Revenants, are creatures made of thought and mass emotion- namely fear. They represent a different major fear and each are beyond full human comprehension. Jack was chosen alongside his former fellow police officer Susan Locke, to be part of a special anti-Revenant team of fighters.

However, when a trio of surprisingly powerful Revenants take Jack, he learns suddenly the full extent of what's happening and why the Revenants are becoming more active. He must find a way to stop it before the Breaking begins again and the world descends into madness.

Other Information/Verse Backstory

This Verse has an interesting take on Fears (also known as Phobic Representational Entities, Boojums, The Sentient Horrors, or as of this book Thought Golems and Revenants). The mythology of the verse states that all the monsters began with one being. Omni. Omni was the name decided for it because it was widely believed to be omnipresent, omnipotent, and omnipowerful. Then something happened- The Breaking- and suddenly Omni was not one being but five: The Unknown (The Slender Man), The Unseen (The Choir), The Unexplored (The Empty City), The Undiscovered (The Blind Man), and The Unending (The Dying Man). These five beings roamed the Earth from the Cretaceous period to well in the Middle Ages. It is unknown exactly what time this happened, but it can be assumed that somewhere in the late 800's, four of the five shards (all but the Empty City) split once more into fragments. The Unending split into billions of pieces, but only two- EAT and The Manufactured Newborn- were powerful enough to roam the Earth without jumping into a human body. The rest were considered demons and most were exorcized. Other than these two, there were the Wooden Girl, The Cold Boy, The Plague Doctor, The Convocation, The Rake, The Archangel and The Black Dog. Counting the Empty City, these ten beings are now what remains of the five all-powerful entities. It is rumored in ancient texts like the Mfwalga Aha'zra that a third Breaking will occur, splitting the ten into countless others.
